Performance, Competition, and Workshops

Dance Competitions

Our students have the option to compete either in solo performances, duo’s, trio’s, or in groups. Students and groups compete locally in Courtenay at the North Island Festival of the Performing Arts, in Nanaimo at the Upper Island Music and Dance Festival and if they are successful, they can go on to represent the Mid-Island region at provincials.

Dancing as part of a competitive group requires time, dedication, and a lot of hard work but the fun of competition and the experiences gained are well worth it!

HDC Performance Crew

For our dancers who like to get out there and show what they’ve learned, our HDC Performance Crew dances at many local events and centres. This group is about performance, rather than competition, and is open to all students. It is a great way to get out and get some experience on a stage in front of an audience!

Holiday Shows

Every second year we do a production number to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Auditions and rehearsals start this fall. Two years ago we did an on-stage adaption of ‘The Snow Princess’ by Ruth Sanderson which was very well received at three sold out shows!

Workshops

Harbour Dancentre puts on a variety of workshops throughout the year featuring guest teachers and other who can help to take our students dance skills to the next level. We also coordinate groups to go to dance conventions in Victoria and Vancouver. Please check on our events listing for featured workshops.
